SILENCE – Virtue or Fault?

BLOG POST 4 - Silence

Edmund Burke is credited with saying, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”  In the Ecclesiastes 3:7, we are told there is a time to keep silent and a time to speak.  Many of us have experienced situations where some people, we presumed were friends, could have spoken in our defense or joined our argument but were silent.  Their silence gave the appearance of agreement with the charges against us and the impact on our hearts was traumatic.  That pain was expressed in Psalm 41:9, “Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.”  That Hurts Deeply!

I have experienced situations in which I stood up when I should have shut up.  I have spoken without hearing the whole matter and it caused pain and problems that were difficult if not impossible to rectify.  I have also experienced times when I wanted to sit down but knew that I must speak up and it brought about a resolution that would not have otherwise been realized.  There are situations when “good people” for whatever reason choose to be silent and their silence emboldens the adversaries and allows evil to triumph in that situation.  At Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the people were shouting and praising God for the Messiah.  The Pharisees challenged him that He should tell the people to be silent.  Jesus said, “I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!”

Although I do not expect the stones to begin crying out in today’s political climate, I do believe that the Spirit of God is grieved when we cower into the shadows and are afraid to let people know where we stand on key matters.  Especially matters that clearly run counter to the teachings of Scripture.  We have silently allowed the politicians and activist to advance their agenda when we could have spoken up and possibly influenced some or encouraged them to Think rather than react.  In that we become complicit and the fruit of our silence will be reaped by everyone.

One of the major problems in today’s world, as I see it, is the failure to honestly and openly Listen.  Someone said, “we were given two ears and one mouth, so we should listen twice as much as we speak.”  That is not the nature of most, but if Fear comes into the equation many, become mute.  The Fear of Rejection is incredibly powerful, and many believe that if they just don’t rock the boat they will be accepted.  I have witnessed people trying to straddle the fence and not engage in the debate or discussion and found that both sides turned on them and rejected them.  Their path to acceptance became the path to rejection.

I have engaged in discussions on political matters with people who were diametrically opposed to what I stood for.  As a result, I’ve been told by some Leftists that they respected me because I was willing to risk the voicing of my views.  They respected the fact that I refused to engage in name-calling, shouting matches, and unbridled anger, but attempted to argue my position from a biblical and factual position.  They still disagreed but respected my courage and commitment to that which I believed.  Jesus addressed that, in a measure, in the Revelation 3:16, “So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”  I fully comprehend that He was speaking about our relationship and commitment to Him but that applies to every dimension of life.  Silence is not always Golden.   Sometimes it is Cowardice!

In the Bible, we find God’s view regarding the importance of sounding the alarm when there is a clear and real danger.  In Ezekiel 33:9-11, He speaks to that and warns the prophet that if he were to sit in silence when he saw a danger, the blood of the victims would be on his hands.  On the other hand, if he were to speak up and sound the alarm he would escape that judgment.

In America, there are political situations, ideologies, agendas, and platforms that run counter to the principles of God’s word and if the Church, Pastors, and Believers sit silently their silence aids and abets those pushing those agendas.  You may protest and say, “Roy, we have to honor the Separation of Church and State.”  You may argue that we are commanded to “pray for those in power and then obey even if we disagree.”  I would argue that our Founders and the Farmers never intended the Church to refrain from any input into the political debate.

History reveals that they usually began their sessions with prayer.  They frequently sought out the counsel of the clergy.  They argued against a State Religion or a State Church.  They took impressive steps to prevent the State from infringing upon the ability of the Church to follow their core convictions rather than attempting to prevent the Church from influencing the political.  I do not want the Church to run the State and do not want the State to run the Church.  However, I do want the ministers and believers to sound the alarm when the State takes a position that violates the principles and precepts of God’s word.

If we see legislation that hurts people and effectively enslaves them locking them into conditions and positions of poverty, should we blindly accept that in silence?  If we see the slaughter of innocent babies in the womb knowing that it contradicts the directive of Scripture, should we blindly accept that in silence?  If we see policies and legislation that endangers the citizens such as open borders and Sanctuary cities, are we to sit silent?  If we see overreaches of government in infringing upon our right to privacy and see moves to silence the church or control what can be preached, are we to sit silent?

I want to speak to Churches, Pastors, Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ and ask, “at what point and on what basis do you sit in Silence while this nation is led down the path of destruction and into godlessness?”  I cannot, and I hope that rather than demanding people like me sit in silence, you join us and take a visible and verbal stand for God, Good, and Right.  We are fighting for our Freedom in more ways than many realize.

I am less concerned as to whether anyone seems themselves as a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, or Independent than I am about inappropriate silence.  If I know to do good and fail to do it, the Bible tells me that is a sin.  If I saw a grown man abusing a child or a woman, I would not say, “Well, it is none of my business and ignore the situation.”  I am fully aware of the inherent danger of becoming involved in a domestic dispute.  If I saw a child about to enter a busy street I would not feel justified in ignoring that situation.  If I saw a fire in a house, I would not say, “Well it is not my job to deal with the fire, I’ll leave that to the authorities.”  I would try to find out if anyone was in the house, and if the authorities needed to be called.  

 Silence would not be justified in those situations.  If I see policies, agendas, and legislation that threatens the livelihood of citizens and threatens the ability of Churches and Believers their 1st Amendment Rights of Freedom of Religion, I cannot sit in silence.  If I see objectives advanced that seek to ‘fundamentally transform’ this Republic into something other than a Free Nation with a government of the people, for the people, and by the people, I cannot sit in silence.  I contend that we are under siege today politically and call upon Churches, Believers, Patriots, Veterans, and Americans to break free from your Fear and take a stand.  This November is possibly a deciding factor in the direction and future of our Republic.  Choose wisely!

BLOG POST 3 - Right to Life

In our Declaration of Independence, one sentence rang loudly then and rings loudly now.  We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”  That was more than a whimsical thought and idealistic superlative being offered by our Founders but words that resonated with the heart of every American and should resonate with equal importance today.  Does it?  Only selectively, it would seem as is seen in the hoopla over the counter to the Black Lives Matter movement saying, “All Lives Matter.” 

The Right to Life did not originate with the Founders of this Republic it originated with the Creator of all things, God Himself.  If I might refer to Scripture I call your attention to Exodus 22:2 where God, in establishing the fledgling nation of Israel spoke regarding their homes, lives, and property.  He said, “If the thief is caught while breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there will be no bloodguiltiness on his account.”  That passage gives the homeowner the unquestioned right of self-defense and the right to protect person and property from an intruder.  That became known as the “Castle Doctrine” and is one of the bedrock principles of our Republic and a recognize the inalienable right for all mankind.

Self-defense is an inalienable right and our Founders recognized and demanded it is included in our Declaration and Constitution.  John Dickenson, one of the signers of the American Constitution defined it as, “a right given by God, inalienable and a right that no inferior power or authority had a right to take away.”  John Adams echoed Dickenson’s sentiments stating, “Rights…antecedent to all earthly government; rights that cannot be repealed or restrained by human laws: rights derived from the Great Legislator of the Universe.”  With those kinds of references and inclusions in their deliberations, how do we still argue that they wanted to prohibit all references and inclusions of biblical truths and/or Christianity from the government?

The Second Amendment was not an after-thought, nor did they view it as being a guarantee for a standing militia only.  They considered the Right to Life as such a foundational principle and wanted every person to have the ability to preserve their own lives as well as defend against the intrusion of foreign enemies or out of control government from within.  In their day, as should be in our day, the youth were instructed in the use of firearms and well versed in this inalienable right.  It was not so that people could kill one another but so that if a person bent on evil attempted to do harm, every citizen was to be capable and authorized to defend themselves up to and including the use of deadly force.

John Quincy Adams upon being sent overseas by President James Madison was so concerned about the education of his nine-year-old son, he wrote his brother: “One of the things which I want to have them taught (and which no man can teach better than you) is the use and management of firearms.  This must undoubtedly be done with great caution, but it is customary among us, particularly when children are under the direction of ladies, to hold it too much and too long from boys.  The accidents which happen among children arose more frequently from their ignorance than from their misuse of weapons, which they know to be dangerous.  I beg you occasionally from this time to take George out with you in your shooting excursions, teach him gradually the use of the musket, its construction, and the necessity of prudence in handling it; let him also learn the use of pistols, and exercise him at firing at a mark.” 

They were fully aware of accidents that occurred with firearms but did not want to restrict them or ban them from use.  Why?  Because the viewed the principle of education and training as a basic reality in the use of weapons.  Also, they viewed the inalienable “Right to Life” as so basic they could envision no other path to follow.  They understood that the gun was not the problem but misuse or lack of knowledge as to how to use it was.

I do not want to make this solely about the “Right to Keep and Bear Arms” but about the “Right to Life.”  That is one of the avenues in which we can protect our lives, our families, and our property.  However, if we fail to view LIFE, all Life as sacred to God we become as the barbaric tribes of history and human life becomes valueless.  When I consider the 60 Million plus babies that have been aborted since the inception of Roe v Wade, I weep.  But, when I review the number of abortions worldwide, 1.5 Billion, I wonder when the ax of judgment will fall on this nation and the world.  You may find my biblical reference offensive, but it is my view and I believe consistent with both the Bible and the Constitution.  Among the inalienable rights recognized by our Founders was “The Right to Life.” 

The American College of Pediatricians concurs with the body of scientific evidence that corroborates that a unique human life starts when the sperm and egg bind to each other in a process of fusion of their respective membranes and a single hybrid cell called a zygote, or one-cell embryo, is created.  Scientific evidence advises that there are Seven Characteristics of Life found in the embryo in the womb called a fetus.  Those characteristics include responsiveness to the environment, growth and change, the ability to reproduce, a regulated metabolism and oxygen flow, maintaining homeostasis (the ability to regulate internal bodily functions in response to external changes), composed of cells, and the capacity to pass traits onto offspring.  But, the pre-born baby has one additional characteristic, which may not be strictly scientific but is true nonetheless: he or she is a bearer of God’s image or a human being created with intrinsic value.

In today’s world, we are synthesized or anesthetized to the trauma that would accompany the killing of an innocent human being.  Many have adopted the view of Hillary Clinton, other liberal politicians, and the Pro-Choice activist that that thing in the womb is not a baby, a person, but simply a blog of tissue.  If anyone considers the time of a heartbeat, when feeling occurs in that entity in the womb and many other facts about the development of that baby, they will have a very difficult time arguing for abortion for whatever reasons.  How is a woman’s right to choose more valued than that baby’s “Right to Life”?

The senseless murder that occurs on the streets of many of our major cities is horrendous.  Some of the most violent cities are the cities with the most stringent gun laws and the problem is not dissipating but increasing.  Laws will not change the condition or resolve the problem because it is not a gun problem but a mindset and condition of the heart.  Until we return to a position and condition that we Value Life – ALL LIFE we will not see a significant improvement in the situation.  So long as we have religions such as Islam that believe they are commissioned by their god to kill any who do not convert to their religion we will have this problem.  If you view a black life more valuable than a white life or vice versa you are contributing to the problem.

 What can we do?  My belief is that the greatest thing we can do is PRAY!  However, if we want to see a return to basic moral principles and Constitutional Government we must elect people who honor both the Constitution and our traditional family values.  We must deal with education, with the disintegration of the traditional value, and return to the principle and precept that everyone has the inalienable “Right to Life.”  Those are some of the things that make elections so important.  If we allow the Toxicity of Liberalism return to power, we will see further erosion of our society and Republic.  Please, please pray about who to vote for and count the costs of your decision.

BLOG POST 2 - Shaking

I have been predicting for several years that a “Shaking” was coming in America that would get everyone’s attention.  I have sensed and believed that there would be or will be a shaking politically and it will stretch from the local Courthouse to the Whitehouse.  No, I am not saying Donald Trump is going to be embroiled in a scandal that removes him from office.  That’s the hope of the Leftist and the Never Trump Crowd but I don’t believe that will be the case.  However, some former presidents just might find themselves squarely in the crosshairs of God’s judgment and experience some tremendous embarrassment and scandal.  I have sensed and believe that the Shaking will touch people of high public standing (recognition) and people of all walks of life.  You may or may not believe the Bible and the God of the Bible, but I do. and I keep hearing in my spirit and heart, “There’s a Whole Lotta Shakin’ Coming!”  America has drifted far from her moral moorings and if we are to survive and continue to be the impact on the world for anything good, there must be a purging that will reach from the top to the bottom and the bottom to the top.

I will possibly draw the ire and hostile fire of some for saying this, but I believe that God raised up Donald Trump for this hour.  No, I did not say, Donald Trump was a saint, but the instrument God has chosen to deal with the condition existing in America.  He can be crude, even rude, and does not carry himself with the traditional political polish we’ve grown accustomed to for decades.  He shoots from the lip and is undeterred by the MSM, the Activist, the Leftists, or even the Never Trump Crowd.  He has been undeterred in the sense that he keeps moving his agenda forward, at times, with limited help from the Republican Congress.

He has taken a stance in support of Israel that former presidents have either side-stepped or were openly opposed to.  He has attempted to keep his campaign promises regarding Taxes, the Border, Terrorism, Trade, the Economy, and more.  Will he do everything right?  No, but what person does?  I have been told by some ministers that I respect that Mr. Trump has had a religious experience and his heart change and his desire is to achieve what is right and good for America and Americans.  My personal religious convictions and his are probably not the same, but I know that God can use anyone to achieve His purposes and, at this time, I believe God is using Donald Trump’s courage and dogged determination.

The hysteria and claims that his presidency would mean millions dying, the end of America as a Republican Democracy, and women being relegated to the back rooms, chained, and treated as sex-slaves is just that hysteria.  Men and women, blacks and whites, Hispanics, Asians, and virtually everyone has done better economically under his administration.  There has been much done, that is positive, regarding ISIS and Islamic Terrorism.  There has been a definitive attempt to place on the various courts men and women who respect the rule of law and the constitution.

In the face of the 24/7/365 bombardment by the MSM, the Democrats, and the Activist to somehow taint his presidency, stop him, hinder him, and ultimately remove him from office, he has continued to plod along fulfilling campaign promises.  I’m not sure any of our former presidents could have survived this blitzkrieg largely because they are politicians and he is not among their tribe.  He was elected because millions of Americans were fed up with the corrupt business as usual of politicians and politics.  In that sense, he has been a breath of fresh air.  I am not trying to justify any flaws in his personality only saying, He has been good for America, thus far.

What we witnessed in the confirmation fight over Judge Brett Kavanaugh has pulled back the curtain on what we are in for with every nominee of President Trump.  I believe that God is about to pull back the veil and expose Washington, DC for what it is and that will stretch far beyond DC and will be felt locally.  The Supreme Court is not supposed to be Republican or Democrat but jurist who interpret the Constitution as it relates to the cases brought before them.

Chief Justice John Roberts is not a conservative and might well be called a centrist.  I do not want the court to advance a Republican or Democrat agenda but to make rulings based solely on the Original Intent and Wording of the Constitution.  In that, I may not like some of their rulings and may deeply agree with some of them, but if they are positioned squarely on the Constitution I can accept them.  There is no place for judicial activism in any court and I believe there is about to be a “Shaking” on the court and in Congress that will move both toward a position of Originalism and in that more toward a position of righteousness.  Those who want the Leftist agenda will cry foul on that statement and argue that any decision not in harmony with the Progressive, Globalist, Leftist view is activism.  Yes, some on the Right will cry the same thing if they don’t get what they hope for.  Again, the Supreme Court will be shaken, corruption exposed, and this President will seek to place people on the court who will protect and defend the Constitution.  That I applaud.

In the mid-terms, I believe there will be some surprises, that does not take prophetic insight to say, there always are surprises.  However, there are some races that are deemed locks that will experience upsets and I believe that in the long run, it will be good for America.  I expect such civil unrest that the potential of martial law will be the result.  If, the Left loses and does not reclaim one or both Houses of Congress the protests and attempts at anarchy we have witnessed since the election of Donald J. Trump will be far worse.  Blood will run in the streets to the point that many will call for the implementation of martial law.

I pray it does not come to that but the death threats already coming forth and the blatant calls for the extermination of white men are producing such unrest and hate that the pot is about to boil over. When it boils over the unrest and destruction will be met by proportional pushback from those on the other side.  For the most part, those on the Right have been silent as the Leftist burn, look, maim and murder. That is about to create a shaking that will shake our nation to its core.

Hear me Please!  I am not calling for violence, do not want violence, abhor violence and believe that the ONLY legitimate way, politically, to effect change in America is at the Voting Booths.  I ask that you Hear Me!  Although I believe that is the primary means whereby we effect change it is not the only way.  Because I am a believer in God and a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, a Christian I believe in the Power of Prayer!  I believe we can bring about change through Prayer and Spiritual Warfare.  No, I do not mean fighting fire with fire in physical altercations.  I mean by pulling down strongholds through Prayer!  If you do not believe in the Bible, you will reject my argument about prayer without discussion, but if you do believe hopefully you will feel the tug at your heart to pray.

I believe that we are about to see some dramatic changes in the political landscape nationally and there will be Democrats and Republicans shaken because of corruption.  I urge everyone to resist becoming discouraged and believe that we can become what we once were and return to our Constitutional and Moral Moorings in the Republic.  My request is that you join us in Prayer but also that you do not grow complacent and you not only Vote in November, but you encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to Vote as well.  Do what you can!

BLOG POST 1 - My Way

Sadly, we appear to have reached a state in America and the world where we deal with others of differing opinions as, “My way or the highway.”  When I was in the military my instructors and superiors often said, “There is the right way, the wrong way, and the Military way!”  Basically, they were telling us, my way or else!  I have dealt with people through the years, including some supervisors and managers in business, and people in the church who held the view, “My Way or the Highway!”  They were intolerant of any opinion, view, or direction but their own.  Serving as a pastor in churches counseling or ministering to couples I sometimes encountered situations where the impasse was so great it seemed unbridgeable.  That was because of one or both views their relationship and marriage as, “My Way or the Highway!”  I’ve watched people politically who are so adamantly entrenched in their position they cannot see that there could be any other possible way but theirs.

There is a Right Way and a Wrong Way to do anything. There is the way of stubbornness, hate, vitriol, bias, and prejudice which divides.  There is the way of tolerance (not compromise), love, soft answers, and genuine concern about what is bets and that way produces health and healing.  In America, I have listened to the Left project onto the Right everything they are and accuse those who disagree of being the epitome and embodiment of evil.  Those on the Right view those on the Left as unhinged, deranged haters of all that is good constitutionally.  That presents an impasse that is unbridgeable without Divine Intervention.  It seems that no one truly listens anymore except to fill their arsenals with ammunition sound-bites to attack with.  There is guilt on the Left and on the Right and room for movement from both sides without compromising Truth, the Constitution, and the Rule of Law.

In years past, the muck-raking and mud-slinging were largely reserved to election years.   However, since the elections of 2016 and the election of Donald Trump as president, it has been non-stop.  The intense drive to divide this nation along ethnic, gender, socio-economic status, lifestyle choice, and abortion lines has separated families, destroyed marriages, divided churches, and estranged life-long friends.  It was a simply a difference of opinion prior to 2016 but has become full-blown hate since.  This might not have escalated to the degree it has been it not for the union of strange-bedfellows and otherwise opponents uniting to Stop Trump!

Some of those actively protesting have allowed their personal animus toward the president as a person prevent them from embracing his policies or some of his policies that have been good for America.  We have come to a place where the new norm in politics is to denigrate the character of another or without factual evidence.  We have allowed the spreading of rumors, innuendo, fanned the flames of false fear, and painted those opposing our view as sons and daughters of the devil himself.  The end will not be good if we do not find a way to tone down the rhetoric, diffuse the hate, and become seekers of Truth rather than presenters of our version of the truth.

In the mid-term elections of this year, we are faced with some incredibly clear choices, in my mind, but the choices are opaque, cloudy, and murky for many.  Those on the Left have allowed the rhetoric to so fill their minds and hearts they are unwilling and possibly unable to analytically or cognitively reason and consider the facts and end of various proposals and policies being presented.  Many on the Left or those who have become disciples of various College Professors who are followers of the Alinsky mindset and Soros ambition can only see evil when they see the “R” after a candidate’s name.  To them, Republican equals a hater of women’s rights, racist, bigots, homophobes, Islamophobic, uncaring people.  They refuse to consider the benefit of the policies advanced and embraced by the Right because it is “My Way or the Highway” to them.  The only “Right Way” in their minds is “Their Way” and it is either My Way or the Highway with no compromise or consideration of facts.  Ronald Reagan once said, “It isn’t so much that liberals are ignorant.  It’s just that they know so many things that aren’t so.”  That can be a problem on both sides if we are not careful.

As a Christian, it is impossible for me to reconcile abortion for every cause with my faith.  I’m not sure I can reconcile abortion for any cause, but that is my personal issue and I do not insist that everyone agree.  A life is a life and all lives must matter because they matter to God.  God did not create racial division, man did.  We are all Human Beings and members of the Human Family.  We are from different ethnicities, have different skin pigmentation, and different cultural views and values but we are all Human Beings.

As a Christian, I cannot reconcile the attempt to force lifestyle choices on others who believe they are a direct violation of the Bible’s teachings.  If God, in the Bible, calls an act or a lifestyle an abomination, how can I embrace it?  If a person chooses to live in that manner, I leave it to them and God.  However, I cannot sit in silence when I am mandated by the federal government to not only accept it but participate in any action that would seemingly endorse it.  In that case, I must resist and ask, “Who must I obey, God or man?”  You may disagree and that is your choice.

Truth should be our objective in all matters.  We must never revert to “his truth, her truth, our truth, or their truth” but The Truth!   The truth will stand up under examination.  And once examined will resonate with any honest heart. The truth will bring liberty and freedom to any soul that will embrace it.  The truth may make us incredibly uncomfortable and require us to make amends, reject preconceived notions, and even make apologies that are painful, but The Truth can and will Make Us Free!

America was founded on the idea and understanding that our Rights come from God not government.  In 1776, every European American, except for about 2,500 Jews, identified himself or herself as a Christian.  Approximately, 98% of the colonist were Protestants and the remaining 1.9% Roman Catholics.  They recognized the providence of the Creator in our birth as a Free Nation and in our Declaration of Independence makes some amazing declarations.

In the first paragraph there is the recognition of God and in the second declared, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”   Equal in the eyes of God, though not equal in ability or talent, equal as Human Being with the right to pursue Life, live in Freedom and Liberty, and take the course desired in the heart to achieve happiness in life.  I fear that we have lost that!

Today, we (collectively) do not see everyone as Equal.  When professors can call for the eradication of White Men and their castration they do not see us as equal.  When the value of human life is hardly greater than zero by some, we are not all seen as equal.  When any means can be used to destroy an opponent politically we do not see ourselves as equal.  When position, power, purse, and control become the prime objective, we do not see ourselves as equal.  If we held those truths as self-evident, we would actively seek the best-good of everyone by seeking the best-good for the Republic and that would completely reshape the political landscape and virtually end the Republican and Democrat distinctions.  We will likely never see that day!  That is why I am praying for America, our leaders, and for Revival.  I long to see the fulfillment of Matthew 6, “Hallowed be Thy name, your Kingdom come, you will be done in earth as it is in heaven.”   I long for America’s healing because I know it will impact the world powerfully and positively.

The choice is before us in November.  We can pursue the path of ‘fundamental transformation’ which I believe leads to destruction or we can vote to give us hope of restoration and a return to Constitutional Government, of the people, for the people, and by the people.  I will vote NO on the Democrats because they have become the party at the national level that is anti-God in too many positions and desire agendas that destroy or transform the Republic into something other than the original intent.

I believe that most Americans think the answer is yes, but the Progressives following the toxicity of liberalism not only do not they do not want them separate.  Washington was embroiled in the confirmation hearings of Judge Brett Kavanaugh and it was nothing short of a side-show.  The Democrats and their protesters attempted to shut down the hearings and derail the nomination.  Their ploy was unsuccessful.  Will the seeming, new found courage and spine of the Republicans last?  I believe that if they have any hope of winning in November or any November they had better learn to stand their ground.

Judge Kavanaugh’s credentials are impeccable and he earned the rating of “well qualified” by the American Bar Association declared.  Imagine that, an organization that is largely left-wing has given him the highest rating they give, yet the Left wants him tossed on the trash heap. Why?  It is not his judicial philosophy.  I do not believe they care about that.  Well, they do because he is not a Liberal Leftist Judicial Activist, but that is not their focus.  Judge Kavanaugh made his judicial philosophy clear in accepting the nomination saying, “My judicial philosophy is straightforward.  A judge must be independent and must interpret the law, not make the law.  A judge must interpret statutes as written.  And a judge must interpret the Constitution as written, informed by history and tradition and precedent.”  That should be what everyone wants, but it isn’t.

The Democrats have attempted to change the judicial and political landscape since FDR’s New Deal.  The modern Democrats desire to change the landscape promoting political and constitutional change through the courts, not legislation.  They want to remove we the people from the equation and prevent the individual states from making decisions.  They want to rule as a tyrannical oligarchy.  The Left doesn’t like Justice Kavanaugh because he has made it clear that he does not believe in judicial activism, a staple of their nominees.

We should heed the words of warning of deceased Justice Antonin Scalia, “This practice of constitutional revision by an unelected committee of nine, always accompanied by extravagant praise of liberty, robs the People of the most important liberty they asserted in the Declaration of Independence and won in the Revolution of 1776: the freedom to govern themselves.”  That is something the Leftist detest for they do not believe that we have the right or ability to make the needed decisions to lead America in the right direction.  They envision themselves as the rightful heirs of rulership and believe they are smarter, wiser, and better equipped to decide for us what is best for us.  I categorically reject that notion!

Bruce Riley Ashford wrote an article for Fox News some time back listed three reasons that Kavanaugh deserves a seat on the Supreme Court.  I list them for you and insert my views on those reasons.  I call upon you to remember that before the Democrats launched their determined fight to block Judge Kavanaugh, Hillary Shelton of the NAACP insisted that Judge Kavanaugh was a “dangerous criminal”.  Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) issued the dire warning that Judge Kavanaugh “wants to pave the way to tyranny.”  Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) called the nomination “alarming.”  Why?  Because Judge Kavanaugh was nominated by Donald Trump and basically no other reason other than He is not a Leftist Judicial Activist Democrat.

Mr. Riley’s reasoned:

  • Judge Kavanaugh’s credentials are impeccable.

They assuredly are impressive.  He earned his law degree from Yale University, clerked for Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.  He practiced law and was on the staff of Independent Counsel Ken Starr.  He worked as White House staff secretary for President George H.W. Bush.  He earned a partnership in a private law firm and has served on the Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington, DC since 2006. He is not a novice and the incredible request of the Democrats for millions of presidential documents from his tenure on the White House Staff suggests the desperation of the Democrats, trying to find something.  Sounds like their hunt for something on Donald Trump, the president.

  • Judge Kavanaugh’s judicial philosophy is faithful to the Founding Father’s vision.

That is something that I have contended must be embodied in the mindset of any nominee regardless of the party in power and who the president might be at the time.  Legal scholars have agreed that his philosophy views judges as umpires, not players and that is important.  He does not view the Constitution as a living document as do the Leftists of today and many jurists in our modern era.  That view gave us Roe v Wade and many other unconstitutional rulings because they Judges deemed themselves as capable, authorized, and qualified to make an extra-constitutional decision.  I disagree with that philosophy!  They have neither the authority or the right and are bound by the Constitution, as it is written.

  • Judge Kavanaugh’s personal character meets the high standard necessary for serving on the high court.

I lament that some of those now serving do not meet that qualification, so this is a breath of fresh air to this veteran and lover of America.  The allegations and accusations against him would not have survived a court of law because there was no corroboration and there are many things that have come to light that suggest his accuser might have been sexually assaulted but at a later time when she was eighteen, not fifteen and those assaulting her were four boys but none of them Judge Kavanaugh.  There were numerous gaping holes in her accusations.  I am not diminishing her story or her possible trauma, only stating that the requirement of “innocent until proven guilty” must remain a cornerstone of our America system and society.

It is imperative that we have men and women on the Supreme Court whose decisions are not for sale!  There has been vigorous bipartisan support from over 160 members of the Yale community, who have publicly stated they consider Brett Kavanaugh a person of deep conviction and integrity.  What do you do with that Democrats?  The answer has become painfully obvious, they ignore it and continue their assault.

We must deflect the attempt by groups such as Planned Parenthood to create a flammable hysteria in their false demonization of Judge Kavanaugh or any nominee.  This group attempts to champion themselves as the “defender of women’s rights” and the “champions of womankind” but their attacks are and should be an insult to the intelligence of thinking women.  In his time on the bench, Judge Kavanaugh has demonstrated intentional and extraordinary help for women.  Liberal feminist lawyer Lisa Blatt, who has argued more cases before the Supreme Court than any woman told Politico: “Sometimes a superstar is just a superstar.  That is the case with Judge Brett Kavanaugh, who had been considered the most qualified nominee for the Supreme Court if Republicans secured the White House.  The Senate should confirm him.”

His record, qualifications, and character make him an ideal member of the Supreme Court.  What he does on the Supreme Court will define his legacy.  Thankfully the Republicans stood frim firm and hopefully that is a sign of future positioning.  The Democrats should drop their inane arguments and move on to the next order of business and try to find some common ground with the Republicans for the good of the country.  Will they?  Not if recent history is an indication of reality.

I pray that enough Americans will be moved by the divide in Washington and realize the importance of preventing the toxicity of liberalism to regain control of Congress.  I pray millions of otherwise disinterested citizens will go to the polls on November 6th and Vote!  The mismanagement and deviousness of the Democrats to derail Kavanaugh’s confirmation have given me further reason to Vote No on the Democrats in November!

BLOG POST 6 - Presumed Innocent

This is a bedrock principle upon which our society is able to maintain any sense of judicial decorum and sanity.  If we shift from the burden of proof being on the accuser rather than the accused, we will become a society in which there is no sense of security for anyone.  For several weeks now, I’ve been hearing the demand that, “a woman’s truth must be believed.”  What is a ‘woman’s truth?’  Is that different from a ‘man’s truth?’  I am not trying to belittle the trauma experienced by any woman in sexual assault, harassment, or abuse but rather than arguing for ‘a woman’s truth’ should we not be arguing for the Truth?  Just because a man or a woman asserts something to be the truth, even if it is deemed their truth and it is not the Truth it cannot be accepted as the final truth.

That is where the ‘Presumption of Innocence’ must remain the standard by which we operate in our society.  Anything less opens the door to scurrilous and defamatory accusations or allegations being allowed to destroy an enemy with no potential backlash and accountability.  That would plunge our society into a state of darkness that none should be willing to accept.  Just because I do not like someone or something from an ideological position that is not justification to reject the demand that we follow the principle of ‘Presumption of Innocence.’  Would you not want that for yourself or those you love?  If yes, then you should want it for everyone.

There is no direct statement in the Constitution that guarantees the ‘Presumption of Innocence’ but the general principle is taken from English Common Law.  It has been backed numerous times in the courts.  However, the 5th Amendment and the 14th Amendments both speak of “due process” that is intended to be carried out.  In ‘due process’ there is the understood principle that it is your right to expect to be “presumed innocent until proven guilty.”  That means guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.  Therefore, in that sense, it is a Constitutional Right.

Most legal scholars argue that the burden of proof is squarely on the shoulders of the accuser.  It is incumbent upon them to show evidence that the accused is guilty.  Inference, innuendo, and circumstantial evidence alone should not be enough to convict.  It is and must remain a bedrock principle of the administration of our ‘criminal law’ and our societal interactions.  The Model Penal Code, promulgated in final form in 1962 and serves as the basis for many state codifications, retains the concept of the presumption as supplementary to the reasonable doubt standard.  However, it changes the crucial term for ‘presumption’ to ‘assumption’.

It reads: “in the absence of such proof [beyond a reasonable doubt], the innocence of the defendant is assumed.”  That, as stated by the drafters, was because they considered is superfluous to add the instruction.  There can be evidence presented that is forensically sufficient to connect the accused with the crime without corroborating witnesses, but that does not lessen the burden of the accuser to prove the guilt.  The guilt must be deemed ‘beyond a reasonable doubt.’  Sadly, there are people in prison today that were deemed guilty by law enforcement and the judiciary without giving them the benefit of the Presumption of Innocence. Are we willing to allow our nation and society to take the opposite position of “Presumption of Guilt” until the accused proves themselves innocent?  That would antithetical to a free society and that is not the Spirit of our Founders and the Intent of our Criminal Laws.  The Presumption of Innocence is and must remain a pillar upon which our freedoms rest.

I argue, that the “Presumption of Innocence” is also a biblical principle and concept.  The Bible requires truthful witnesses to be used to determine guilt.  Today, we have forensic evidence and detailed detective work to help determine guilt and/or innocence.  Deuteronomy 19:15-20 – “A single witness shall not rise up against a man on account of any iniquity or any sin which he has committed; on the evidence of two or three witnesses a matter shall be confirmed. 16 ” If a malicious witness rises up against a man to accuse him of wrongdoing, 17 then both the men who have the dispute shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges who will be in office in those days. 18 “The judges shall investigate thoroughly, and if the witness is a false witness and he has accused his brother falsely, 19 then you shall do to him just as he had intended to do to his brother. Thus you shall purge the evil from among you. 20 ” The rest will hear and be afraid, and will never again do such an evil thing among you.”  

 I want you to notice several things in this passage, which help validate the idea of “Presumption of Innocence.”  First, one witness was not sufficient, but two or more witnesses were required to confirm guilt.  Second, if the witness was suspected of being malicious (false) both the accused and the witness stood before the priests and judges.  The testimony was thoroughly investigated and if the witness was found to be false, then the false witness incurred the punishment he had intended for the one he accused.  That is incredibly powerful!  The purpose was so that others would hear what had happened and be afraid to make false allegations.  There was a penalty for fabricating charges against another.

In our society, if we imposed sufficiently harsh penalties upon those making false allegations as to become a deterrent we would find fewer of those types of situations arising.  If there is no penalty or only minor repercussions for making a false allegation, false allegations will become commonplace.  If we allow the disruption of an innocent person’s life with no negative consequence toward the accuser other than the accused filing litigation, we do harm to our free society and our judicial system.  There is always the danger of a rogue, diabolical, despotic government or arm of government using False Allegations and False Witnesses for their purposes.  It becomes even more likely if there are not legal or societal repercussions for so doing.

Let expand it this way and attempt to highlight some the dangers of failing to maintain the principle of the “Presumption of Innocence.”  If we do not maintain this principle we become a law unto ourselves and the threat to our society is immense.  If we lose the ‘Presumption of Innocence’ as a binding principle we could see situations where someone took a dislike for a person or politician and physically attacked them.  There are those on the Left who insist that “presumption of innocence” only applies to criminal trials.  That opens the door for incredible violations of individual rights and is frightening.  If it was not for the principle that everyone is “presumed innocent” in every facet of life, there becomes no more room for formal society because we would all be involved in an endless and random maze of acts of revenge and counter-revenge acts against each other because everyone is “Presumed Guilty” and that would create an unlivable world and chaos of epic proportions.

We cannot allow hearsay no matter how moving the story is to determine guilt or innocence.  We must have factual evidence, credible witnesses to corroborate the accounts or crimes, and allow the accused his/her day in court with the “Presumption of Innocence.”  In a great measure that principle is on the ballot in these mid-terms.  The differences between those on the Left (Democrats) and those on the Right (Republicans) has never been more transparent and clear.  I am not claiming the Republicans are without fault, but I am taking a stand that the difference in objectives is unmistakable.  If we want the Rule of Law and have any hope of returning to a time and state in which we are “One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” we have only one path to follow.  We vote NO on the Democrats, at least all Democrats who are in lock-step with the Establishment Democrats in Washington, DC.  I am voting for America in this election and praying for sanity and civility to be restored.

BLOG POST 12 - Whoosh

Our world and particularly the United States of America seems to have taken leave of our senses and sanity has packed her bags.  No, I do not mean that every person in America has gone bonkers, but lunacy is becoming more prevalent on the political scene than reason.  It goes far beyond a double standard, political rhetoric, and superfluous diatribe it borders on sheer insanity.  The preposterous positioning, allegations, and insults are beyond illogical and if they were under the microscope of psychological analysis would be deemed mentally deranged.

There are so many examples of this I cannot possibly list them all so this is in no way intended to be exhaustive although it may be exhausting.  I have found the double standard and the swift shift by the Leftists both amusing and infuriating.  The new target is Kanye West.  He was the media and liberal darling when he criticized George W. Bush, but now that he is recognizing the advancements and advantages under Donald J. Trump, he is the worst possible kind of human being.  Some have called it the “Kanye Derangement Syndrome” and that might be accurate.  It is certainly deranged and problem a syndrome and a symptom, not the cause.

Those embracing the toxicity of liberalism largely on the Democratic side of the equation are in full ‘divide and conquer mode’ and have been for a long time now.  Kanye might not be the best spokesperson for the black community, but he is a person of note and the fact that someone of his background and ethnicity would #WalkAway is important.  When Donald Trump appealed to not only the black community but everyone who had been entrenched in the Democratic ideology he asked, “what the hell do you have to lose?”  It appears that there are many people of minorities not only blacks that are seeing the light and realizing they are better off now than they were under Barack Obama.

The fact that they are embracing lower unemployment, higher wages, lower taxes and can see the light at the end of the tunnel is causing panic in the Democratic Party.  CNN, MSNBC, the DNC, Hollywood, ANTIFA,, the New Black Panthers, and other activist groups are chiding any black who would through off the shackles of the ideological slavery of the Leftist Plantation.  This is not new to the Left for even the late John McCain was their enemy when he ran for president but their beloved friend and the poster boy for how Republicans should conduct business when he opposed Trump.  Nikki Haley was trash to them until she submitted her resignation as ambassador to the United Nations.  George W. Bush was their mortal enemy until he and the Bush family sided more and more against Trump but became their enemy again when he contacted Senators to support Judge Kavanaugh.  The fickle winds of position blow mightily among Leftists.

The calls by Hillary Clinton and Eric Holder for incivility and even violence is telling and is another sign that Sanity has exited our public discourse.  We are and will witness more and more groups from both sides of the issue engage in violence against each other in the days to come.  The flames of hate are being fanned to the point that the only possible outcome is a raging wildfire of violence in the streets of American cities.  That is not only troubling it is contradictory to what needs to happen.  Somehow the Liberal Leftists seem to believe they can engage in hate, violence, allegations, innuendos, and protests and those holding the opposite view will forever remain silent and passive.  That is delusional and in War, both sides bleed and suffer injury.  Please invite sanity to return!

The Democrats are desperate and committed to the Alinsky modus operandi of violence and ‘the end justifies the means.’  They seem to know no bounds and somehow justify their insanity and incivility.  They seem to believe that those of us who stand for the Constitution, the Rule of Law, are Conservative, and Christian are the enemy of Freedom and the root cause of our divisions.  Mirror Mirror on the Wall – No they will not look in the mirror and take an honest assessment of their position and attitude.  Their position is, “don’t confuse me with the facts my minds made up.”  America, we are in a very dark hour.  I am concerned that too many have adopted the attitude of “Que Sera Sera” and think that “this too will pass” and the current condition is just a bump in the road.  I warn it is far more than that!

Let me give you some simple mathematical and statistical facts that you will like if you are on the side of Constitutional Conservatism.  Well, most will, but some are still so avidly Never Trump they will hate these facts.  There is an increasing number of blacks agreeing with President Trump and rejecting the Democratic shackles.  Democratic presidential candidates or any Democrat running for a national office must receive almost all the black vote to win.  Democrats sell racial division and promote fear among minorities to keep them in the fold.  They pit Americans against Americans seeking to divide along racial, ethnic, gender, or socio-economic lines.  Their argument to blacks is “you cannot support the Republicans they are the wrong color.”  That is ironic because most Democrats in Washington are also white, but logic was never intended to be part of the equation.

A Public Broadcasting Poll recently indicated that Donald J. Trump’s approval rating among Hispanics voters was 41%. That is amazing!  If anything like that happened among black voters it would be “Turn out the lights, the party’s over for the Democrats.”  A Rasmussen Poll revealed that Trump had about 8% of the black vote in 2016 and nearly doubled that in 2017.  A recent Rasmussen Poll indicated that Trump’s approval rating among blacks was at an astounding 36% compared to 19% in 2017.  That is amazing!

The facts reveal that the number of Black’s opening new small businesses is skyrocketing, and more and more blacks are entering the free market as speculators and investors.  If Trump is a racist, or if those of us who support him are, and he and we wanted to hurt African-Americans and other minorities he and we failed miserably.  The opposite is happening “The Guidant Financial” reported that ‘year-over-year, we saw a 400% increase in the number of African-American owned small businesses.’  The Democrats are terrified that their ideological slaves may be escaping the plantation and know that if they do they will discover the lies that have been told them for decades and will NEVER RETURN!

I end with a quote from Clarence Thomas during his confirmation hearing: “This is not an opportunity to talk about difficult matters privately or in a closed environment.  This is a circus.  It’s a national disgrace.  And from my standpoint as a black American, as far as I’m concerned, it is a high-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas, and it is a message that unless you kowtow to an old order, this is what will happen to you.  You will be lynched, destroyed, caricatured.”

Sanity has either departed or is departing and it is up to every Freedom Loving American who believes in our American System, the Constitution, the Rule of Law, and those who are Christians to RESIST the Resistance.  November is our opportunity to send a message to the world that “Sanity is Being Restored” and we will not allow the Lunacy being advanced to survive.
