
I have had people who are fellow believers in the Lord Jesus Christ ask why I say I can’t vote for the Democrats or the Democratic platform. They often use arguments about the character or allegations against a Republican or Conservative in the race and compare apples to peas. They talk about principle and contend that the Republicans are without compassion and the Democrats are the Party of the little man. Sometimes they even attempt to use the Bible to defend their position.
This article will likely put me in hot water with the PC Police and will aggravate some to use the delete button on our Facebook friendship. If that happens, it happens, but I believe in Freedom of Speech. I believe the Bible. I believe in God. I believe that some things are so glaringly anti my core foundational convictions that I must address them.
I am going to list a few items that prevent me from voting for the Democrats because of their Party Platform. Even if the individual Democrat in the race appears to hold many of the views and convictions I hold, their national platform and the history of Democrats voting in Congress precludes me from pulling the lever for that candidate. Overall, the Republican Party’s national platform has more closely aligned with my views than the Democrats. At this juncture, there is no viable alternative to the two main political parties. Will that change? Time will tell.
First, the matter of Life is probably the number one issue on my list. I believe in Life! I believe in the declarations of the Bible regarding life, and I believe in the principles espoused in the Declaration of Independence. I believe the objective of the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Abortion is a deal-breaker for me! If a Party or Candidate supports abortion, no matter which side of the aisle they identify with, I cannot vote for that candidate. I would be in a dilemma were both the Democrat and Republican in a race embraced the Pro-Choice view and the modern view of post-birth abortion, I would either not vote or write in a candidate’s name. I could not with good conscience vote for either of them.
I believe that birth begins, at a minimum, at conception. I go to Psalm 139 as my first reference. In Psalm 139:13-16, we read, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made your works are wonderful, I know that full well.15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” You may not accept God’s view, but it is my cornerstone.
When I turn to science and medicine, I find things so amazing and disturbing regarding the development of that infant in the womb, that the thought of abortion makes my skin crawl and I cringe. It is a horrifying thought to slaughter that innocent, unborn, life before it has the opportunity to experience life on earth.
Around two weeks after fertilization, it is documented that the baby’s first completed brain cells appear. At three weeks the pre-born child’s heart is in an advanced stage of formation. How does anyone refer to that being in the womb as a blob of tissue? At about 24 days the heart begins to beat. A heartbeat and yet it is not recognized as a human being, a living creature in the womb? How can that be?
At 4 weeks the muscles are developing with arm and leg buds are visible and the first neocortical cells appear. The neocortex is the seat of complex thinking and reasoning, a feature not present, in any other mammal. At 5 weeks the pituitary gland is forming and at 6 weeks the baby’s heart energy output is 20% of an adult’s. The cartilage skeleton is completely formed, and bone formation begins.
At 43 days, the baby’s brain waves can be recorded. Yet, the Pro-Choice, Pro-Abortion crowd still refuses to recognize this as a life. Just a few days following that infant in the womb begins spontaneous and voluntary body movements. At 7 weeks the lips of that preborn child are sensitive to touch, and his/her ears resemble his family’s pattern. At 8 weeks all organs are present, complete, and functioning, except the lungs. The heart beats marvelously, the stomach produces digestive juices, the liver makes blood cells, and the kidneys are functioning. How is that not a living being, a LIFE?
By the end of the first trimester (12 weeks, the point where most surgical abortions are done) the baby in the womb has demonstrated distinct personality traits. Sleep patterns differ, some hiccup constantly, others may cry. How is that not a living being?
There is much more but I won’t try to give a full breakdown of the month to month or week by week in the development of that life in the womb but hope that demonstrates that that thing you call a fetus, or a blob of tissue is a LIFE, a Living Human in the womb. If God judged the nation of Israel for sacrificing thousands of babies to Baal, how can He not judge us when we have sacrificed Millions to the God of Choice or Self?
Since there is little space to list the numerous other items that prevent me from voting for the Democrats, I will list some without discussion. I believe that God made two genders, Male and Female. I could refer to many passages, but I give you the first in the Bible, Genesis 1:27 – “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”
The idea of a man trapped in a woman’s body or a woman trapped in a man’s body would be to insist that God made a mistake in creating us. I do not believe that and cannot endorse that practice of self-identifying as something other than what your chromosomes and physical features reveal you to be.
God calls homosexuality an abomination. I know that I’m not supposed to say that but when both the Old and New Testaments confirm God’s view of the practice as being unacceptable and sinful, how can I endorse it. If God says something, I am not afraid to take a stand in agreement with His word. Let me give you some biblical references to consider (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9; 1 Timothy 1:10; Jude 1:7).
Taxation, the right to keep and bear arms, freedom of speech, private property rights, and national security are also extremely important to me. There are many many more, but I will conclude with this and hope that you receive this as my view. You do not have to accept or agree with me and I will still interact with you. But my principles demand that I reject any political party that pursues those things that are contrary to the Original Intent of the Constitution, the Bible, and moral common sense.
