HEY AMERICA, WHERE DID OUR LIBERTIES GO?

Have you noticed the individual liberties and freedoms we’ve lost or that have been diluted to the point of being unrecognizable?  It’s a serious erosion that demands our attention.   It’s crucial that we critically evaluate political agendas and their potential consequences.  The needs of the many should never outweigh the rights of the few.

The Obama administration sought to regulate everything, even what we could eat or what our kids could eat in schools.  The Biden administration has escalated that, and a Harris administration would likely put the finishing touches on Obama’s desired fundamental transformation.

The Democratic platform is more of the same, and it has even expanded during the last two Democratic administrations in their policies and ideologies.   Theirs is a continual assault on virtually all of our Freedoms and Liberties.   The Constitution is meaningless to them unless they can use it to advance their agenda.   They want us to become beholding to the Federal Government for our existence.  They want us to become so dependent and fearful of Big Brother that we dare not voice a word of opposition lest we get cut off from the dole.

The continual effort to build the base of “dependent voters” is never-ending.   The spin to vilify corporations and successful people has been used for centuries. It is designed to separate people and win them over to the argument of the despot so that they will willingly relinquish their rights and liberties, thinking that this benevolent dictator will look out for their interests with a pure heart.  It never works out that way, but the sheep still follow the pied piper and drink the Kool-Aid as though it were the nectar of life.

Under Donald Trump, it became easier to start a new business, but the plans of the Leftists make it a virtual impossibility to succeed.   There is so much governmental paperwork and regulation that the cost of attempting to produce your idea is often prohibitive.  That is a pathway to stifle American ingenuity.   The mandates in Obamacare were the tip of the iceberg of what they desire and are pushing for.

The class and race antagonism being overtly and covertly pushed by the Left will bring us to a place where martial law would be expected and possibly required.  I wonder how much of the coronavirus pandemic was manufactured by the nefarious in the world to bring us to our knees in submission.   I can never forget the words of Rahm Emanuel, “Never let a crisis go to waste.”   That is their philosophy, and if there is no natural crisis, one is precipitated to ensure the conditions to accomplish their goals.

America, we are witnessing our inalienable rights as provided by God and recognized in the Constitution and Declaration of Independence taken from us “by little and by little.”   Some have been so slowly eroded that we did not notice they were gone until after the fact, and once they are gone, it is virtually impossible to see them restored.

The government is seldom reduced in size. It may be held in check for a time, but once something like the stimulus is out there, it becomes part of the baseline budget, and we get it every year without another vote and the consent of We the People!

If we genuinely want to reduce the deficit and debt, we must adopt a “zero-based budget.”  The politicians on both sides of the aisle, especially the Left, wish to maintain their “baseline budget.”   That budget grows every year and will increase every year even if it reduces the amount or percentage of its growth.   It allows the behemoth called the federal government to continue being a monster, leaving us no ability to feed or control.  That would be true even if we took 100% of our income and applied it to government expenditures.

The idea of cutting the military by over 70% as under Obama and eliminating various portions of our armed forces is deadly.   The claim that we are spending too much on defense is ludicrous.  Over 70% of the Federal Budget goes to individual entitlements or subsidies.  It’s not the military that is the problem, although I agree that waste needs to be addressed.   Yet, national defense is a major function of the federal government, so how can we rationally pare down our military to the point where we place this land at risk because of the lack of equipment or manpower to defend it?

I ask that each of you think about these things, and whatever you do, vote in every election to remove those whose views are contrary to freedom, liberty, the Constitution, and America first.   If you do not vote, you are voting through the back door for a continuation of this policy and ideology that we are having shoved down our throats and the continued stripping away of our liberties.

I want change, and I continually hope that Americans will “awaken out of sleep,” see the handwriting on the wall, and cast a ballot to Restore America to the foundational principles and operations that our Founders envisioned and implemented.

My plea is, “Can I Have My Country Back, Please?”   Benjamin Franklin’s words keep ringing in my ears and wandering through the corridors of my mind these days.   When asked what type of government the Constitution was bringing into existence, he said, “A republic if you can keep it.”

I look back at the history of this nation, and except for the tragedy of slavery, the United States that came into existence was a nation where people could engage in any occupation or venture into any economic endeavor without a government license, permit, or regulation. People could travel anywhere in the world without restrictions (no passports) and trade with anyone they choose without getting the government’s permission.

We have been a nation where people can amass unlimited amounts of wealth with no governmental interference because the Constitution did not originally permit the government to levy income taxes. People are free to do whatever they want with their own money. They can save, spend, donate, invest, hoard, or even destroy it if they want to.  That changed, and we are paying the price for it with a loss of freedom.

The government wasn’t allowed to take care of people.   That was the task of family, churches, local communities, and individuals.   There was no social security (and therefore no social security taxes or contributions withheld from one’s pay), Medicare, Medicaid, welfare, education grants, or even foreign aid.  There was no war on drugs, poverty, or wealth.

Today, we have a government that places such a burden on businesses and individuals through taxes, restrictions, and regulations that we can hardly breathe, much less excel.   We have a President who wants more and more control over every detail of our lives and a Congress that seems willing to go along with those desires as they line their pockets, insulate their positions of power, and participate in living the life of an Elite Ruling Class.  This is a far cry from what the Founders envisioned, planned, and tried to prevent, and would raise a call to arms if they were here today.

So, I ask Congress, the President, the Supreme Court, Churches, and every governmental agency in existence, “Can I have my country back?”  I don’t like what you’ve done to it and want to rescind your claim to it, your power over it, and your handling of it.

We, the People, want to take over and desire that you step aside and find gainful employment in the workforce like the rest of us.  We ask that you not live a life of luxury by placing the burden of paying for it on the backs of hard-working, tax-paying citizens.  Simply,

We Want Our Country Back! From this day forward, I, as a natural-born legal citizen, will Vote to take it back from your control in every election. If those elected do not honor this request, then in the next election, I will Vote to send you back home, too. I will do that and try to get as many people to join me as possible in every election until those who go to Washington and the State capitals Listen to what we are asking. We want our Country back!

God bless you, and God bless America!

CHRISTMAS, ADVENT, AMERICA, FREEDOM, and MORE…

I am unashamedly a Christian, a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a conservative, a constitutionalist, a Vietnam veteran, and a lover of Freedom.  Therefore, when I write about political things, I frequently include the biblical as the foundation for my observations and opinions.  Some find that refreshing, and some find it akin to fingernails on the chalkboard.  I do not ask that everyone agree with my views, only that I will be granted the opportunity and freedom to express them without censorship.  I desire that for those on the Left and those on the Right.

There are Christians who celebrate Christmas and those who do not.  The reasons for celebrating or not celebrating are varied. I do not wish to engage in a debate on that front.  I am concerned about America and the world and the obvious drift or shift from our traditional moral moorings to a more humanistic and godless position. That shift has dramatically damaged the pillars of freedom recognized by our founders.  I believe they understand the value and indispensableness of God’s providence in securing Freedom as a republic.

We sing many Christmas carols or songs at this time of the year.  Some of them may not have initially been intended to be included in the caroling season of the Christmas celebration.  One, in particular, has been written not as a Christmas song but as a plea for Freedom and Justice.  I will give a brief explanation in the paragraphs to follow.

We sing “Silent Night,” a beautiful reminder of the night of Jesus’ birth and the meaning of that event.  We sing “It’s A Most Wonderful Time of the Year” to illustrate the Joy that overflows in many hearts this season.  We sing “Joy to the World,” a powerful and beautiful song.  However, it seems that Isaac Watts did not pen this song as a Christmas song.

For much of the Christian world, the first Sunday in December marks the first day of Advent, the four weeks preceding Christmas.  Many use that time as a period of introspection and reflection on their lives and relationship with the Savior.  For some, it is a period of intense longing and even repentance.  It is designed to be a time for people to prepare their hearts for the coming Messiah by reemphasizing why we need a Savior.  We look to the event on Christmas, the birth of Jesus, as the day when Hope comes to mankind in a tangible way.

There was a time when Christians spent time fasting during this season as they sought to right their hearts, lives, and attitudes linking them with God in total surrender.  Today, fasting has given way to feasting, and rather than seeking to unite with God; many seek their own desires.  In today’s world, often reflected in politics, the desire is wealth and power.  Thus, the reason for the season is lost or takes a backseat to self and self-centeredness.  Politicians seek power.  Citizens seek personal prosperity.  The season has become a commercial segway to the next opportunity for entrepreneurial endeavors.

In the 18th century, when Isaac Watts served as pastor of a local congregation, he was very much a nonconformist in London.  He and those following him and those of like ideology and conviction were longing desperately for goodness to prevail and justice to reign in human hearts as well as human governments.  That longing inspired Watts to write “Joy to the World.

It is important to remember that religious freedom was not allowed during Watt’s day, as we have enjoyed it in more modern times.  The established church and the government disallowed the ability to follow one’s conscience and worship God according to the dictates of their heart.  There existed a rigidity that dictated what acceptable thought, speech, and patterns of worship were.  Some religious hierarchies and the federal government seek that condition in this modern world.  Thus, we, too, long for goodness to prevail, hate to dissipate, and justice to become a norm.  It is not just at Christmas that this is needed but throughout the year.

Isaac Watts was a brilliant man, but because he was not part of the authorized, established, and recognized church, he could not attend Oxford or Cambridge.  He penned his song based on Psalm 98 and from a broken heart as he longed for true freedom, religiously, socially, and politically to prevail.  He saw the devolution of the human heart and longed for God’s restoration.

You know the words well:

Joy to the world!  The Lord is come.

Let Earth receive her King.

Let every heart prepare Him room,

And heaven and nature sing,

And heaven and nature sing,

And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.

The Psalm reveals that all creation sings or will sing praises to the true King, the Creator of all things, the Living God!  He used beautiful poetic language describing the rivers clapping their hands and the mountains singing.  The earth was joyous because the King of all Creation was a good, righteous, honorable, and just ruler.  He rules “in righteousness and the people with equity.”  What a thought and reality that is absent from human governments and too many hearts today.

That was the theme of his final verse:

He rules the world with truth and grace,

And makes the nations prove

The glories of His righteousness,

And wonders of His love,

And wonders of His Love,

And wonders, wonders, of His Love.

If we open our eyes, we see a world in chaos and disorder on virtually every front.  If we open our hearts, we realize the absence of love that is so powerful that it quells argument and hate.  If we open our spirits, we realize that we need something far more significant than ourselves and our ability; we need God.  The world is broken, and the only fix is a return to God and embracing the real reason for Christmas.

“Joy to the World” and many other songs we sing at this time of the year focus on Hope!  Not the hope that comes through human ability, intelligence, creativity, or labor.  It is the Hope that is only found in the Peace of God.  This hope cannot come through human kings or rulers.  It is found only in God; if we look back to the event of Advent and the birth of Jesus, we can Hope again.

I pray that all of us will pause in our political wranglings and arguments and reflect on humanity’s greatest need, Jesus and Salvation! We will never be enough, do enough, or know enough to bring peace to this world. That peace can only come through the Prince of Peace.

I pray that as we sing Christmas songs or carols when we come to Joy to the World, we will reflect on the need for moral sanity and godliness and seek the only true source of Peace – Jesus!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!   I pray that your celebrations will be joyous, and as you enter the New Year, you will discover the power and place of Love and enjoy the Peace of God that surpasses all human understanding.  Instead of hating those who disagree, let’s seek to demonstrate the Love of God, and then Christmas can be extended to the entire year.

God bless you, and God bless America!
