I am cognizant that some who read what I write do not share my Christian faith and may disagree with my assertion or argument that what America needs is a Spiritual Revival or Renewal.  I believe that this nation has drifted from its moral moorings and the only way we are going to truly restore, revive, preserve, and perpetuate our Republic is to return to our moral and spiritual moorings as well as our constitutional foundations.  I do not believe that is possible aside from a God.  There again, if one does not believe in God or does not believe God involves Himself in the affairs of men, my argument may be like fingernails on a chalkboard.  But, if you do believe in God and can see, even slightly, the drift in our moral foundations I would encourage you to engage in Prayer for this nation.

Some argue vehemently and stand staunchly against anything biblical being connected to matters of state.  They adopt the argument of “Separation of Church and State” as being a mandate to eliminate everything biblical or of the Christian faith from physical properties or political deliberations in government.  I disagree!  I do believe, as is detailed in our Constitution and validated in the writings of our Founders and the Framers of the Constitution that WE THE PEOPLE should be allowed the Free Exercise of our Faith and Worship. I also believe, as that document details that the State SHOULD NOT establish a national church or name any religion as the State Religion.  Additionally, I believe that the teachings of the Bible and the precepts taught in the Christian Religion were an integral part of the deliberations of those men who hammered out our Constitution and System of Government.  I believe that the moral precepts and principles taught in the Bible have been a strong fiber in our preservation as a Republic for these 200 plus years.  You may disagree and that is your right.

I cannot ignore the many references those men made to the Bible and how important they believed its truths were to our society.  That is evidenced by their inclusion of the Bible in public education, their prayers for God’s favor in deliberations, the fact that Congress printed a Bible for public consumption, and much more.  I am sure that many of you are aware that the Capitol Building, often served as a home for religious gatherings in times past.  Today, that would incur the ire of many and would land in the courts in protest.  Amazingly, our Framers and the Founders did not see it as a violation of the so-called “Separation” many demand today.  For most of the 1800’s, the Capitol building also served as a Church building and became the largest congregation in Washington, D.C. It also hosted Christian gatherings other than weekly church worship services.  In 1844, according to Congressional records: Congress ordered that the use of the Hall of this House (the Capitol) be allowed to the American Bible Society on Tuesday evening next.

It was in that particular gathering that John Quincy Adams, a very elderly man and serving as a member of the House of Representatives as well as an officer in the American Bible Society addressed the gathering in the House Chamber.  The same room he would die in three years later.  He reminisced about his decades of involvement with the Society and said: “Fellow citizens and members of the Bible Society: In taking the chair as the oldest Vice President of the society, I deem myself fortunate in the opportunity… to bear my solemn testimonial of reverence and gratitude to that Book of books, the Holy Bible… Having been taught in childhood the unparalleled blessings of the Christian Gospel, in the maturity of manhood I associated with my brethren of that age for spreading the light of that Gospel over the face of the earth [the American Bible Society was founded in 1816 by several distinguished Found Fathers] … It is a soothing consolation to my last hours that having so long been associated in this cause with the fathers, I still find myself associated in it with the sons.” 

He was so thrilled with the fact that this society and Christianity was able to express itself in the Hallowed Halls of the American Capitol he reportedly wept.  He believed and expressed his belief that the Society would continue and that our government would always recognize the importance of the Bible and God in our deliberations.  Sadly, he was wrong!  Rather than continuing to recognize the Bible’s importance in life and government the litigations to prevent that continue to increase in number each year.

He concluded his remarks saying: “The hope of a Christian is inseparable from his faith.  Whoever believes in the Divine Inspiration of the Holy Scriptures must hope that the religion of Jesus shall prevail throughout the earth.  Never since the foundation of the world have the prospects of mankind been more encouraging to hope than they appear to be at the present time.  And may the associated distribution of the Bible proceed and prosper till the Lord shall have made “bare His Holy arms in the eyes of all the nations, and the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.”  Isaiah 52:10

I believe that the greatest need America has today in all aspects including social, economic, and political is a return to our founding principles and, in my view, that will ONLY COME through a Spiritual Revival and Renewal.  Therefore, I call all who believe in prayer and follow the Christian Religion to join me in praying for America.  We cannot overcome hate with hate.  We cannot survive divided to the point of violence in our society.  We cannot prosper as a nation when we violate the basic principles of Human Rights and Human Dignity.  We cannot devalue human life to the place that it is an afterthought to slaughter millions of innocent babies in the womb.  Some politicians are advancing the idea of “full term abortions” and how that can be deemed anything, but murder is beyond my ability to comprehend.  Our Framers and the Founders established this Republic on a basic principle that we must return to All men are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights including, LIFE, LIBERTY, and the pursuit of HAPPINESS.”  No one is owed anything except the right to pursue their inalienable rights.
