In this American’s view, we live in a nation where there is unacceptable activism in the Courts and especially the SCOTUS, there is too much unbending partisanship in Congress, often ignoring the will of the people, and most of our Presidents have been narcissistic ideologues.
Barack Obama wanted to punish America’s success and completely rewrite the Constitution or render it null and void. Our society’s moral decay has reduced us to a decadent state devoid of moral mooring. We have failed to keep the politicians in check. We have drifted from the founding dream of pressing into true greatness and liberty as a people.
If those assessments are remotely near correct, my title is appropriate. The American Republic is no longer, and I am right to long for her return. You may disagree on some points or all points, but I contend that it is difficult not to acknowledge that these are dire times. I hope that in the next four years, something will be done to move us back to our founding republicanism.
Our ship of state will not magically right itself. After eight years of Barack Hussein Obama and four years of Joe Biden, we are left with a damaged republic. I make no excuse for the incredibly bad decisions of both parties. I am cognizant that America is facing some daunting and challenging choices in the immediate future. If we do not correct our direction, the federal government will continue to expand far beyond anything that any of our Founders would have deemed acceptable.
The Frenchman Alexis de Tocqueville came to America to investigate how such a new nation could excel so quickly and to the extent to which it excelled. He found something he was not expecting and, in his analysis, gave a prophetic warning that we failed to heed. It is to our peril that we ignore his words and those of numerous others, including many of our founding fathers.
Alexis de Tocqueville said:
“Upon my arrival in the United States, the religious aspect of the country was the first thing that struck my attention, and the longer I stayed there, the more I perceived the great consequences resulting from this new state of things. In France I had almost always seen the spirit of religion and the spirit of freedom marching in opposite directions. But in America they were intimately united and that they reigned in common over the same country.”
Think about what he said, especially in light of the actions of such groups as the Atheist, ACLU, and governmental agencies that have attempted to bypass the Constitution. They have sought to weaken our moral moorings, banish all things Christian from the public square, and force Wokeism and Political Correctness on us. I expect a more frontal assault on religion in the coming years.
Alexis de Tocqueville was amazed that anyone finishing the 2nd Grade could read and write well. He even found that in the frontier, the common people could engage in intelligent conversation, read newspapers, and had a good understanding of the various branches of government.
It caused him to reflect further:
“I sought the key to the greatness and genius of America in her harbors…. In her fertile fields and boundless forests, in her rich mines and vast world commerce; in her public school system and institutions of learning. I sought for it in her democratic Congress and in her matchless Constitution. Not until I went to the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret to her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good. America will cease to be great.”
Sadly, it is the view of this American that we have lost moral goodness on many fronts. That is disturbing and borders on frightening. We do not see “Moral Leadership” from the elected officials. We are not seeing “Moral Mooring” in our schools, institutions of higher learning, courts, and often our churches.
- We are being inundated with an effort to achieve universal political correctness and forced accommodation called tolerance.
- We are watching the abandonment of Principle for the sake of appearing Tolerant.
- We are experiencing an America that the Founding Fathers feared would come and repeatedly warned against.
- We have allowed the Federal Government and other Governments to give us our liberties, freedoms, and any power that we might have rather than us giving the government its limited power.
- We have allowed the government to become the source of our rights, liberties, and freedoms rather than recognizing that those are “Inalienable Rights Given by our Creator.”
Yes, America is in bad shape, and I, for one, Long to see her return! America, you are in my daily prayers, and I will work and stand for you until I no longer draw breath in this mortal body.
May God bless you, and may God bless America!
