You might ask, “What problem are your speaking of, Roy?”  I am so glad you did.  In my opinion, humble or otherwise, one of the greatest problems in Congress today is legislation.  Let me clarify, it is legislation that is laden with riders, amendments, pork and other things that have absolutely nothing to do with the bill.  It is either destroying or has quite possibly destroyed our legislative process and made it nothing more than political prostitution and turned Congress into a political gestapo fronting for Giant Corporations, Radical Special Interests and Political Ideologies.

This process allows politicians to hide behind a vote at some point and declare, “I voted against or for it.”  It allows legislators to attach an amendment of pork or coercion to a bill that if it stood alone would force them to vote yes or no and allow the public to truly evaluate their stance on issues of concern to us all.  The ability to attach amendments and riders to bills creates and environment through which legislators are allowed to fleece the public, pull the wool over the eyes of the unobservant and Cover their Political Backsides.  It allows them to reap the benefits of money and power during and after their political careers.  It allows them to advance political ideologies that are not always good for America but satisfy a special interest group that is vocal, powerful and contributes heavily to their campaigns.

Let me advance a solution that will never happen UNLESS or UNTIL we retake our government from the political elitist running Washington.  It is not a new theory but one I believe would benefit America greatly.   I would like to see STAND ALONE LEGISLATION as the rule and law for Congress.  If a bill cannot pass on its own merit then let it die.  If politicians choose to vote in a purely partisan manner on issues that are of significant importance to the American public then let them do so.  If the American voter then opts to return those individuals to Washington they do so knowingly not through deception.

I would like to see bills free of all amendments and riders.  I had a politician tell me, “But you just don’t know how DC works and we do not have enough time to debate every issue that would be required.”  My response was, “You are probably right, I do not know how things work in DC but I know how they should.  I also know that if you spent less time dancing, engaging in CYA and focused on the matter at hand, many of the bills would require little debate and an Up or Down vote would be relatively simple.  Then each legislator would be on record as to how they voted and the voting records of politicians would be useful in determining who we would vote for in subsequent elections.”  He did not like my observation.

The sad reality is that most bills that reach the desk of the President are so filled with pork and extraneous items they have little to do with the original intent.  They are tools of deception and it seems a haven for politicians to frolic and hide.  They become spin machine tools and provide ability to pad the resume falsely furthering the deception of the public and the destruction of this nation.

            I asked my Congressman if he would support this and he said, “In principle but we do not operate in principle.”  He would not elaborate and to me that was a clear answer that he was saying, “NO.”  It would remove a powerful political tool from their arsenal and would make them too visible.  I have had numerous people argue against this saying, “But this allows the legislators to add some really good stuff to bad bills that are sure to pass anyway.”  If I accepted that philosophy I could accept the genocide of some if in that occurrence we got some good things along with it.  I cannot, do not and will not accept that philosophy.  I would prefer to see legislation that I support die for lack of support by legislators than to see a few things I want wrapped in a host of things I do not and are not good for this nation.

I desire accountability in politics as in all areas of life, mine included.  I believe that we would be far better served as a nation and have a real possibility of cleaning up and changing Washington if we actually had STAND ALONE LEGISLATION and disallowed adding amendments and riders that have ZERO to do with the legislation in question.  Again, this is my opinion and I have received ABSOLUTELY NO support from any legislator I have spoken to about this.

Actually I have a problem with the political process that extends well beyond individual politicians or even political parties.  I am addressing no other nation’s politics but that of my own, the United States of America.  I love the humorous but deadly serious quote from Ronald Reagan, “It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession.  I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.” 

Politics is a necessary part of a Republic with a Constitutional Representative Democracy.  Politics is described and defined as, “the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power.”  Without the political process we would have a totalitarian dictatorship or complete anarchy not a Constitutional Republic and in many ways we have at best an Oligarchy and are moving rapidly toward a more totalitarian dictatorship and that saddens me as an American citizen and veteran.

Most are familiar with the story of Benjamin Franklin emerging from Independence Hall in Philadelphia and being asked, “Dr. Franklin, what kind of government have you given us?”  Mr. Franklin’s reply should have long been a clarion call for diligence on the part of the public and politicians but for long decades has fallen on deaf ears.  He said, “A Republic, madam, if you can keep it.”   The founders hammered out the best system they could conceive and I personally believe were guided by the divine hand of providence.  They also understood that if WE THE PEOPLE failed to remain diligent and professionals were allowed to hijack the process with elitist oligarchical mindsets the Republic could not survive.  The euphoria of this new found independence and the prosperity of successive generations as well as the enjoyment of personal liberties by the citizens muted their warnings.  We are paying an almost unpayable price for that failure.

The infamous quote attributed to George Santayana is worthy of consideration and remembrance.  He said, “Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.”  The original quote is more likely, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”  Sadly, in 21st Century America we are on a “damn the torpedoes full steam ahead” approach to sanitizing history to make it politically correct and thereby deemed acceptable.  To ignore history or remove certain elements of our past from the record does not change the past nor does it advance the future.  If we are to advance as a civilization, maintain our Republic and insure our Constitutional guarantees, liberties, rights and privileges are held intact we dare not make that mistake of politicizing history.  If we are to benefit from the mistakes of the past we must know them.

Politics as some have humorously but often accurately defined is:  The word is derived from two words.  Poly = many and Ticks = blood sucking parasites.  Therefore according to this definition politics and politicians exist to drink the blood of the citizens making them creatures of the dark and even vampire world.  We live in a very dark world controlled by corruption, the pursuit of graft, greed and power.  Politicians frequently sell their votes like prostitutes sell their bodies and we the people are the victims largely because we ‘trusted’ the politicians to protect and defend the constitution and ‘abdicated’ our responsibilities.  The latter has been, at least partially, because it either did not impact us personally or in our bottom line or we deemed the task too daunting and sat silently as the Republic crumbled.  Edmund Burke had it correct saying, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

The Bible addresses this in Galatians 6:9 by saying that if we do not faint or quit in doing what is good and right we will reap the harvest of those efforts.  I have long told those who would listen, “The only way the devil can win in our lives is for us to quit.”  We have a hope!  America was established as a Democratic Constitutional Republic rooted in the principles of God’s Word.  The founders provided a system of checks and balances and repeatedly warned that the true caretakers of the Republic were THE CITIZENS. 

So politics does not bother me the greater problem are professional elitist politicians and an apathetic populace.  I am tired of the blood sucking parasites draining the life out of my Republic and issue the call to “Take It Back!”

For seven years I have watched the systematic and consistent assault on the United States Constitution by this president and his followers and it has disturbed and angered me.  In the very beginning of his reign (his apparent thoughts regarding his term in office) he and his wife have trashed America, talked down American Excellence and consistently apologized for what they apparently view an evil empire called the United States of America.  That could cause one to believe that he wants to completely destroy this nation but is that his objective?

I believe that he fully believes his rhetoric and narcissistic view of himself that he is the savior of the planet and commissioned by all that is divine to right the perceived wrongs of this nation from its inception.  He is so filled with his distaste for America and most of the West it cannot be hidden.  However, I have come to believe that his objective may not be the TOTAL DESTRUCTION of America but, as he promised, the “fundamental transformation” of her.  The only question is “transformed” into what?

He, like most communist and socialist before they taste the power of rule believe the propaganda of a utopian world in which all is equal and everyone shares and shares alike.  The problem is those in charge do not want to share, do not believe they are required to share and therefore live as royal potentates while their subjects live in abject squalor.  There is no remorse or twinge of conscience over that disparity for they believe that it is through their superior intellect, morality and knowledge of what is right and best they have earned respect and worship of we lesser mortals and it is their divine right to reap the benefits at our expense.

            He like most leftist believes that the United States is and has been an arrogant nation needing to be taken down a peg or two and they are diligently working to accomplish that.  They believe ‘redistribution of wealth’ will create equality and provide a certain reparation for the gross evil of those who risked, earned, developed, created and grew businesses and wealth.  In short, they view capitalism as the evil enemy and a target to be destroyed.  They fully believe that government is god and that only government can create wealth, jobs, a stable economy and a utopia and therefore anyone who is conservative or a constitutionalist is a mortal enemy and must be destroyed without remedy.  For them, defeating constitutional conservatism at the polls is not enough the individuals and organizations so identified must be eviscerated, annihilated and completely eradicated from existence or forced into submission.

They see in the demise of the Republic as it was created a new Phoenix rising from the ashes and a New American Utopia established in its stead.  They seem to truly believe that America was founded by evil, selfish, hate filled white men.  The amazing thing is some of them have amassed fortunes from the very system they seek to destroy and are white but still they advance that agenda religiously.  (It is a religion).  They work in conjunction with the A.C.L.U., Moveon.org, and the Center for American Progress, Media Matters and other leftist organizations.  They also join with Islamic groups such as CAIR and seek to use America’s freedoms as weapons against this great nation.

            Although I believe that Barack Obama and his followers want to solidify and create a Democrat Party that is so overpowering it is undefeatable I do not believe he cares as much about the party as his legacy and place in history and his ascension to Grand Potentate of the Universe.  Is he that naïve, narcissistic, ideological and delusional?  YES!  Is he destroying America?  YES!  If another Democrat is elected will his agenda be advanced to the point of no return?  YES!

The grand tragedy is that there are millions who do not believe he wants to REMAKE America and millions who agree with his antipathy for America.  If you listen you will hear the voices like Jeremiah Wright ‘condemning’ America and becoming almost giddy when she suffers at the hands of those who want to destroy us.

This next election cycle is about far more than the White House or which party controls Congress it is about the Constitution, the Republic and Freedom.  If we do not evict those who refuse to stand firm constitutionally and elect people with patriotic courage, integrity and dogged determination to see America restored we have lost.  God can deliver us if we fall on our faces repenting and praying.  If we sit on our hands in our ivory towers and continue to declare that Christians cannot be involved we have lost. 

America the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave once a reality is in danger of becoming a memory.  What say you?  Will you stand for America and do what must be done to see her restored?

I know, I know, that statement makes me a ‘conspiracy theorist’ regarding this administration and the left’s desire and push for gun control legislation.  It is going to come either as congressional legislation or an executive order issued as an emergency measure under the guise of stemming the violence taking place across our land.  You can doubt this if you choose but I fully believe a last ditch effort toward total confiscation of firearms from the citizens will take place before Obama’s term is up in January 2017.

Will that push us into a total civil war when law abiding private citizens are faced with the choice of complying with a law or edict from Washington to turn in their firearms or resist and stand on their unalienable rights?  Will it be that the vast majority passively or complainingly comply while a few million resist?  Will it result in the incarceration of many 2nd Amendment supporters who are largely conservative in their politics and further solidifying the voting advantage for the leftist?  Will America survive if they are successful?  These are all questions that cannot be fully answered but I have little doubt each of you has an opinion if you allow yourself to speculate in the scenario aforementioned.

      This president and the left ignore the incredible number of homicides within the inner cities of our nation where much of the crime is black on black as young blacks are mercilessly slaughtered by other blacks.  However, let a situation where the police shoot a black man regardless of the circumstances or a horrific situation like the AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina and the IMMEDIATE push is to label guns as the problem.  That is ludicrous!

I tread lightly as I in no way want to even hint that I am less than horrified and angered by what took place and condemn the actions of Dylan Storm Roof a 21 year old white male who apparently out of racial hatred, paranoia acted.  We know he was possibly on some mind altering substances before this took place as well.  Would he have committed this act without the drugs?  Who knows?  Is he to be condemned?  ABSOLUTELY!  Any act of terror is to be condemned and has no justification!  That is not the point I am approaching this from.

The tragic fact that something like this draws an IMMEDIATE reaction from Mr. Obama and the left that ‘guns are the problem’ is disturbing.  Forget the myriad of murders in the inner cities.  Forget the acts of terrorist and criminals using guns, knives, bombs, etc.  Forget all that and take advantage of the fact that a white male used a gun.  That means we must ban guns and if we have a law that controls or bans guns there will be no more gun violence.  I KNOW YOU DO NOT BELIEVE THAT!   Criminals and terrorist will not comply with the law. 

            Mr. Obama’s declaration that things like this do not happen in advanced countries is absurd.  He must not be aware of any acts of violence in any country in the world to make that statement or maybe he knows he can ignore facts and spin his agenda and those who support him and the media will jump on it like stink on a June bug.  America if we allow them to ‘ban guns’ for private law abiding citizens we will see the quick eradication of most if not all of our other constitutional rights.  I won’t go so far as to say that taking our guns would result in a Nazi-like move by the tyrants and would be gods in politics but they will strip our constitution to where it is a meaningless piece of paper and thereby enslave all.  I am fully convinced their agenda is to go far beyond guns but let it suffice to say the next move would be free speech, freedom of religion, unlawful and unreasonable search and seizure.  Just go down the list and check them off for our unalienable rights will be systematically and quickly eliminated.  We will be like the proverbial frog placed in a pan of water and the heat slowly turned up.  Rather than jumping out of the pan we will be boiled to death constitutionally or unconstitutionally.

THIS COMING ELECTION is about more than just who occupies the White House although that is critical.  It is about our constitutional rights and that means we MUST elect people to Congress who will rigidly defend the constitution and protect our rights afforded or identified by it.  If we fail to evict those who have shown signs of faltering on that front and send people to Washington and the State Houses who will protect and defend the constitution we are signing our own death warrant constitutionally.

I am convinced that in the wake of Charleston, SC and whatever subsequent police situations or other shootings take place Mr. Obama will do whatever it takes to make possessing or owning a firearm so tedious that many will give up the effort.  What will likely happen is enough citizens will resist that we will move to the next step calling it a National Emergency and via martial law declare guns in the hands or homes of citizens illegal.  That will leave the military, police and criminals armed if we comply.

            FULL ASSAULT ON THE CONSTITUTION IS COMING!  Label me whatever you please but remember what I am saying and watch what sneaky steps take place over the next few days, weeks and months.   We are on the precipice of losing our Republic totally and forever.  Will we keep it?

I believe that Benjamin Franklin’s famous quote is quite germane: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”  Ronald Reagan said, “As government expands, liberty contacts.”  John Adams declared, “A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored.  Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.”  All should be warnings against the ever increasing rise in size, scope and power of the federal government.  The insatiable desire to tax and spend should cause the alarm bells to constantly ring within our hearts and minds in this great land.

The sad reality is that we appear to have evolved to a position and condition in American society where we want government to intervene when it can intervene on our behalf against anyone or anything in opposition.  We have groups today who clamor for the federal government to mandate everyone accept them or their ideological position.  It matters not to them that the pursuit of their perceived rights may well trample on the rights of another for only their rights are important.  It really does not matter what group or issue we are talking about when you seek the federal government to control and mandate that everyone comply with your platform you have entered a most dangerous realm.  A realm that will, at some point, prove to be your downfall and that of society.

There are those so desirous of assistance from the federal government in the form of cash, services, goods, or advancement of their cause they are willing to risk the impending loss of liberty that accompanies that control.  The federal government gives nothing without demands.  Are we really comfortable with allowing the federal government to regulate virtually every aspect of our lives?  Can we not see the ominous cloud that is rising with each abdication of our individual liberties?  Do we trust government or politicians to DO THE RIGHT THING?  No we do not and yet we want them to regulate and assist in our cause.

            What are we willing to give up in order to continue to receive our monthly check from Big Brother?  What are we willing to give up in order to have our group or cause recognized and heard?  What are we willing to give up to have a temporary sense of security and safety?  What we are willing to give up is a drop in the bucket of what the Government demands.  The old saying, “Give him and inch and he will take a mile” applies perfectly to the federal government.

Power corrupts and the more power the more corruption.  Most people tasting power develop an appetite for it, seek to entrench themselves in it and become convinced they are destined and deserving of it.  Despots and tyrants throughout history have evolved to the place where the citizenry became or become nothing more than subjects whose singular purpose was or is to serve them.  If we produce they increase and if we fail to produce the desired quantity and quality we are expendable.  They can live in splendor while the world around them lives in abject poverty with no noticeable troubling of their conscience.

            We have transitioned from a limited government in which the States maintained their individual rights and we the people controlled the government and policies of our State and thereby limited the federal government.  Today, the cart is before the horse and the federal government usurps the constitutional guidelines, national politicians enjoy position, power and privilege and WE THE PEOPLE are no longer truly represented and viewed as the true owners of the government as dictated in our constitution.

Mr. Franklin you were right and your warning has gone unheeded regarding our need to “Keep the Republic” you and our founding fathers so valiantly labored to provide.  God help us!  We are a society in which it appears there is a willingness to give up rights and liberties for whatever government assistance we seek.  It matters not if that is money, goods, services or elevation of our group or cause to the forefront.  If we get what we seek we seem willing to allow the federal government to take another piece of the Liberty Pie off the table.  How long before only crumbs remain?
